SIN 874-2:
Facilitation Services
Examples of facilitation services KAI provides include the following:
- Network Operation Center - KAI serves as the Network Operations Center to provide expert advice,
assistance, and guidance in the support of several NIH Networks.
In this role, we develop policy and procedures, monitor and report on the performance and
related professional activities of the Network investigators and their clinical sites.
KAI facilitates the Network by helping identify scientific goals and developing processes and structure
to implement these goals. We coordinate Steering Committee meetings and conference calls, coordinate
and track studies, prepare routine and ad hoc reports including tracking and enrollment reports,
and track both administrative and scientific study progress. KAI developed a Web site to assist in
communication among the sites. We have also conducted organizational process reviews to
ensure optimal study conduct and information flow.
- DSMB Support - KAI facilitates and provides related decision support services to
over 30 clinical trials Data Safety and Monitoring Boards (DSMB). For these very visible and important Boards,
KAI identifies potential members, develops agendas and charter templates, prepares letters for agency head signatures,
provides meeting planning and logistical support, provides expert opinion on matters of policy and ethics,
arranges the Board meetings and conference calls, records discussions and focuses decision-making,
and prepares draft and final meeting minutes and reports for the permanent record.
- Program Management - KAI works with Institute staff to structure activities that
would need to be performed to manage clinical studies and respond to the NIH mandate for safety monitoring.
We developed a document that outline the tasks, systems that were required, and information flow.
- Study Management - We manage clinical studies for several Institutes.
For these projects we develop a management plan, organize a project team and implement the project.
Providing project oversight, we meet regularly with internal staff as well as Institute staff,
produce progress reports, and identify issues before they compromise the integrity of the project.
KAI can provide facilitation and related decision support services to agencies engaging in collaboration efforts,
working groups, or integrated product, process, or self-directed teams for health research studies.
